Frequently Asked Questions
Why Dance for 15 hours if the money has already been raised?
For
the families we sponsor, there is no greater feeling than walking into a room
filled with hundreds of students who are cheering them on as if they were the
Cyclone football team. We dance to show support of families who have spent too
many days cooped up in a hospital room, eating soup that is too salty and
Jell-O that is too watered down. We dance to let them know that somebody cares.
We also dance to celebrate your achievements in fundraising and support.
Will I actually be expected to Dance for 15 hours?
No- There will be plenty to do! We will have bands and activities set up throughout the day that will make the time pass by FAST! We just ask that you stay all your feet for the day.
Why?
We sponsor children that endure spinal taps, surgeries and prolonged bed-stays. By feeling the discomfort of standing for 15 hours, we might better understand what they go through while also proving our commitment to them. You will get more out of Dance Marathon if you uphold the standing policy.
How do I charge my registration fee on my U-Bill?
After you have registered, if you chose the U-bill payment option, you still need to go into AccessPlus and finish the following 5 steps.
1. Sign in to AccessPlus and go to Student tab (as normal) 2. Select Campus Org Events on side-bar 3. Click Browse Open Events on top of sidebar 4. Choose Dance Marathon 2008 rgstrn 5. Click Bill MeWhat’s with these overly energetic people that go around calling themselves “Morale Captains”?
A Morale Captain is the best resource a dancer has. Their purpose is to help you through the process of fundraising, provide communication between you and the families, and be an inspiration of energy at the Marathon in January. Ask your Captain!
How are Dance Marathon families selected? Who gets to be sponsored by Iowa State Dance Marathon?
Children and families that have been treated at University of Iowa Children’s Hospital for everything other than cancer are invited to participate in Iowa State University Dance Marathon. Funds raised at ISU DM help to support projects within UI Children’s Hospital benefiting families cared for in outpatient clinics, inpatient units, Gait Lab and more. Please see the projects that we have funded here.
May I leave the event early? Can I come back?
No. If you need to leave early during the event you MUST speak to a member of the Executive Committee. This is for liability purposes. If a medical problem or other situation will prevent you from participating in the marathon in its entirety, contact your Morale Captain. Special situations will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
How much of my money goes towards the cause?
The Iowa State Dance Marathon has no paid employees. 100% of the funds raised by our dancers go directly towards the programs benefiting the patients cared for at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. In addition, Dance Marathon has a special relationship with Children’s Miracle Network, allowing a committee of doctors, nurses, and other officials to allocate all funds raised through out the marathon as they see fit.
