Nick BassettNick Bassett is 17 years old and will be a junior at Boone Community High School this fall. Nick has been involved with the Swinging Dor's Show Choir for three years and Large Group Speech Contest. Nick loves to act too. He played Johnny Casino in Grease last fall. Nick has been involved in 4-H for 7 years and has had 2 projects chosen for the Iowa State Fair. He also has been chosen as an Iowa State Fair act for "Share the Fun." Nick loves to fish. He caught a 6lbs walleye last summer and shot a 5pt. buck at a hunt for kids with disabilities. At the age of 20 months. He was diagnosed with a benign spinal cord tumor and has had many surgeries. In 2001 we were referred to University of Iowa Children's Hospital and Clinics to be treated for his tumor and a severe case of scoliosis and kyphosis. A team of pediatric specialists began a series of surgeries to address his spine problems This has helped Nick be the active young man he is today. Recently, Nick has been having some problems with his legs becoming weak and not being able to walk so he is scheduled to have a surgery soon to help get back to walking and having the time of his life. One of Nick's favorite things to do is sing at Iowa State University Dance Marathon. Most anytime you can find him singing or watching Boone High Toreador Football.
